There are some parts of the book, that just wouldn't work, like the character of Clopin, if he was the same as he was in the book he would be too frightening for kids. Against all the odds, the Disney team transformed Victor Hugo's novel into a truly lovely tale for all ages to enjoy. The story is great too. Paul Kandel voiced him marvellously and his singing was out of this world. Sarousch has taken the boy hostage and blackmails Phoebus into opening a gate for him. The enormous popularity of the book in France spurred the nascent historical preservation movement in that country and strongly encouraged architecture.
Still, it takes nothing away from the remarkable achievement that this Disney film is. I could easily see is being in a top notch play. A sincerely touched Madellaine kisses him on the forehead and leaves. His unrequited love for Esmerelda as she runs off with someone cooler and better looking is something we can all relate to. If you haven't figured it out, this scene shows all the people who are locked in their houses burning alive because of Claude frollo.
It's hardly setting out to be a serious piece of literature-to-film. Quasimodo returns and says he did not find Phoebus. Then there is Clopin, a very underrated and relevant character. The characters are also well done, and so is the theme-driven story, and the themes are very mature and complex. After the first reading, the piece underwent revisions; a second reading was produced in January 2011 under the musical's new title, Les Enfants de Paris. When Madellaine disagrees with this mission, Sarousch reminds her of her past and of the loyalty she owes him: when she was six years old, Madellaine was a thief who was caught trying to steal coins from Sarousch.
The 1956 French film is one of the few versions to end almost exactly like the novel, although it changes other sections of the story. It's such a touching story, it could even bring a few tears to your eyes, and some fun comedy to uplif the story. It has such a beautiful story, a bit different from the original Hunchback of Notre Dame book, but they had to make it family friendly. For weeks Esmeralda and Quasimodo live a quiet life, whilst Frollo hides in his private chambers thinking about what to do next. It is revealed in the story that the baby Quasimodo was left by the in place of Esmeralda, whom they abducted. The moment I thought of 3D, I knew this film would be my first choice. This Walt Disney retelling of Victor Hugo's ever popular novel with classical characters such as an appropriately gorgeous gypsy who performs a bewitching dance in front of delighted spectators and a deformed bell ringer. The acting is fine, especially from Christopher Gable's definitive Gringoire and Warren Clarke's genuinely affecting Quasimodo.

Blackhawk Video's version contained a Lee Irwin orchestral score with flute sounds, ringing church bells and cathedral chanting. The scene with 'Hellfire' is truly chilling. The bell falls silent when a released Madellaine joins Quasimodo in the bell tower. Today is the festival of the fools, taking place like each year in the square outside Cathedral Notre Dame. In my opinion, Tom Hulce can really sing. From the cathedral , Frollo Tony Jay , filmmakers cast this actor because they loved his voice when they worked with him on Beauty and the Beast , an evil judge , gazes at her lustfully. The girl wakes up and is paralyzed with terror until Frollo pins her to the bed with his body and tries to rape her.
Not just the animation which is some of the most accomplished from Disney to date, whilst we're on the subject , but the characterisation and pace of story. Phoebus decides to search around the catacombs, and brings Madellaine with him. I didn't think much of it, but having revisited it after all these years, I am convinced that this is Walt Disney Studios' most amazing effort yet. Bethany Cox First of all, I just want to say this movie is extremely underrated. However-this movie is not for young kids. All I know is, it was medicine I needed at the time, and I'm glad I got it.

Unlike Victor Hugo's novel, this screen version details very little about Quasimodo's background, yet, spends more time bringing out the true heritage of Esmeralda. After being convinced by his gargoyle friends to venture out into the world on the Festival of Fools, Quasi is beaten and humiliated because of his appearance, but is saved by the beautiful gypsy dancer Esmeralda.
